Kate Middleton’s Mom Revealed a Sweet Holiday Tradition She Shares with the Royal Kids

The Duchess’ mom has some fun family traditions

While celebrating Christmas at Buckingham Palace with the Queen sounds amazing, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis get the royal treatment at their other grandmother’s house, too.

Carole Middleton, who is the mother of Kate Middleton, revealed some holiday secrets and traditions she shares with grandchildren in her first interview since her daughter became a member of the Royal family. As with any grandmother, when it comes to her grandbabies, more is more — especially when it comes to Christmas trees. According to the grandmother-of-four, she likes to have as many trees in her house as possible and even has one small tree for each of her grandchildren. She explains the reason for so many trees is “so that they can decorate it themselves.” Now that is one smart grandma. If each kiddo has their own tree, there’s one less reason to fight over ornaments.

We love seeing the little Princes and Princess at Royal family events and outings, and like any little ones during the holidays, they probably love having the chance to decorate a Christmas tree all on their own. Their great-grandmother the Queen has said they love decorating trees at the Buckingham palace too.

In an interview for a documentary, the Queen said decorating with children can be a bit tricky. "Yes, that is always the problem, is the children love knocking those [decorations] off. Well my great-grandchildren do, anyway, they enjoy themselves."

Kate and Prince William share three children — Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and 7-month-old Prince Louis. Kate’s sister Pippa recently welcomed her first child in October, a son named Arthur, who, along with Prince Louis, will be celebrating his first Christmas this year.

While her daughters are often in the public eye, Carole and her husband Michael prefer to live a much quieter life their manor house in Bucklebury, which is about 50 miles west of London. Carole said that William and Kate love visiting her home when they need a break from their busy lives, and she loves the time she gets to spend with her precious grandchildren.

Even with a Duchess as a daughter, Carole says she still leads a very normal life. "I have two other children and grandchildren and my job, and I lead a lot of my life round here, where I’ve lived for years and people knew me before Catherine’s…impact,” she shared. “It isn’t normal maybe to go to Louis’ christening or Catherine’s wedding, but, in the end, they’re all family events."
