Dax Shepard Says the ‘Parenting Police’ Go After Wife Kristen Bell Instead of Him
Another reason why we love Dax Shepard.
There are a lot of double standards in parenting. While many moms and dads privately see it in their own lives, celebrity parents experience things under a microscope. One of our favorite celeb couples, Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell, know this all too well.
Shepard shares two daughters with Bell, Lincoln, 7 and Delta, 5, and recently said that when it comes to the ‘parenting police’ who troll moms and dads, it’s usually moms who are criticized the most.
“Shaming traps, in general, are pretty misogynistic and aimed largely at women,” Shepard told Us Weekly. “Kristen will get attacked long before I will, even though we’re both equally in the mix. I am against any version of shaming, whether it starts with ‘How long did you breast-feed?’, ‘Did you give birth in the woods?’, ‘Did you do this?’, ‘Are you doing that?’”
Recently Bell shared that 5-year-old Lincoln was wearing diapers at night–which is common–however, the mom shamers came out in full force to attack the actress for her parenting choices. Instead of trolling both Bell and Shepard, it was Bell who took the brunt of the online attacks.
Despite this, Shepard said he tries to be sympathetic toward people who troll his wife. “Under that is something that’s quite relatable and loving, which is most people want their kids to thrive in all the ways,” he said. “They want them to be healthy, they want them to have opportunities, they want all that. That’s what we all have in common… Your identity becomes so interconnected with your children. You feel like they represent you and you represent them. When you’re in those conversations with people, you’re in very dangerous territory of challenging identities, and that’s when people get really emotional and upset.”
It seems like both Bell and Shepard take the ‘parenting police’ in stride and are loving life while raising their two girls. Best wishes to them both!
