Recipe courtesy of Robert Springs and Anny Francisco
Robert and Anny love to make this sangria to enjoy while they cook a bunch of recipes. They also like to serve it at family gatherings as it’s a huge crowd-pleaser. Their key to making the best sangria is to use any combination of fresh and seasonal fruit and allow it to marinate in the wine mixture for several hours before serving.
Yield: 6 to 8 servings
Active Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 2 hours 10 minutes (includes marinating time)
Ease of preparation: Easy
- One 750-ml bottle red wine, such as Garnacha, Tempranillo or Pinot Noir
- 3/4 cup orange juice
- 1/2 cup brandy
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 cup diced mango
- 1 cup diced pineapple
- 1 green or red apple (green or red), thinly sliced or diced
- 1 navel orange, thinly sliced into half-moons,optional
- 1 cup blueberries or sliced strawberries, optional
Chilled club soda, for serving, optional
Combine the wine, orange juice, brandy and sugar in a large pitcher and stir well until everything is combined.
Add the mango, pineapple, apple, orange if using and berries if using and mix again. Put in the refrigerator and allow the mixture to marinate for at least 2 hours and up to overnight. The longer the sangria sits before serving, the better the flavors become.
Serve the sangria topped with club soda if using.
