These Stars Were Outshone By Their Gowns

Red carpet appearances can place celebrities on the best- or worst-dressed lists, but these gowns are in a category all by themselves. From designs made of meat to babydoll heads and VHS tapes, these stars shocked fans with looks that will go down in history.

Icelandic singer and songwriter Björk donned this inventive dress at the 73rd annual Academy Awards show in Los Angeles. The ruffled swan, whose neck hangs over Björk's own, is an iconic addition to her memorable and quirky looks.

Jennie Burbridge

Model Jennie Burbridge shocked photographers at a 1967 charity ball when she served herself up in gown made of aluminum foil.

Madonna is famous for her style. The icon has worn many head-turning looks, but this circa-1980s baby doll-accessorized bustier and pinwheel skirt is among the most unique.

Micaela Schaefer

Model Micaela Schaefer donned a gown made of VHS tape at the Men in Black 3 red carpet premiere in 2012. In the age of streaming, recycling old tapes is officially fashionable.

Lady Gaga

Gaga fans are used to her extreme looks and captivating expressions, but even those most familiar with the artist were shocked to see her arrive at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in a gown made of meat. We still wonder what it smelled like.
